Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Do I have ADHD?
ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by a persistent pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity that interferes with functioning or development. Symptoms are divided into two main categories:
Inattention: difficulty maintaining focus on tasks and/or activities, especially for long period of times; careless mistakes; poor organizational skills leading to messy work or missed deadlines; frequently losing items like keys, wallet; easily distracted; forgetfulness.
Hyperactivity-Impulsivity: fidgeting; difficulty to remain seated when it is expected to; difficulty in engaging in quiet ‘deep’ work/tasks; difficulty waiting for your turn.
ADHD is one of the most common diagnoses to be given in the recent past and is also often misunderstood. Symptoms can be mislabelled and misinterpreted as behavioural issues, especially at work or school.
If you have been diagnosed with or self-identify as having ADHD, we can help figure out how to cope with some of these symptoms using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) methods and build practical strategies to help you succeed.
How we help
You do not need a formal diagnosis of ADHD to access psychotherapy. Our goals in the first couple of sessions would be to obtain history of your ADHD symptoms, when you first noticed them, how they show up at work, school or your personal life, and then to strategize how to make your environment adapt to your neurodivergence. We will also work with your strengths by identifying all the internal and external tools you have accumulated over the years that serve you and how to hone the ones that do not work anymore.
We support folks with ADHD by focusing on what works for you and co-creating a structure that helps you meet your goals.
You can book a free 20-minute consultation to discuss more and how we can help.
